A Success Story of Utah’s I-15, The Point Design-Build Project (IPI Partnered Project of the Year)
3 - 5 pm, Thursday, May 18, 2017, Hilton San Francisco Airport Bayfront
The Point project in Utah was a success because of the partnered approach by UDOT, Utah County Constructors, and Wilson & Company. The team started the partnering effort immediately after project award, aligning project goals for the entire team. Teamwork, common goals, and the project charter allowed us to implement a project that was delivered on schedule, minimizing impacts to traffic, while reconstructing seven miles of interstate near Salt Lake City. The approach made issue resolution a constructive process that provided quick solutions to keep the project on schedule. It also opened the door to innovation, such as a median conveyor over the interstate, and providing better lane configurations, both of which would have been difficult without the partnered approach to design and construction.
