The Calabacillas Arroyo Channel Stabilization and Flood Control Project, located east of Coors Blvd in Albuquerque is approximately 2,300 feet in length. There was a need to increase the capacity of the channel for the 100-year flood event of 15,500 cfs, and mitigate the continuous erosion and headcutting taking place.

The early Spanish settled along the Santa Fe River, which has served as the lifeblood of the community for centuries. Heavy development led to devastating erosion along the river, which was affecting public safety. Innovative engineering techniques were used to stabilize the river and reclaim a rich Resource for the community using natural resources.
