Camp Creek Drainage Improvement Project - Colorado Springs, CO

Wilson & Company is the prime consultant for this project which includes planning, analysis, and design of a jurisdictional detention dam. Project tasks include:

  • New hydrologic analysis for the 10.3 square mile watershed that was impacted by the 2012 Waldo Canyon Fire
  • Design of 0.8 miles of boulder-lined channel
  • Concept design of a detention dam and channel, and bridge and roadway improvements

Camp Creek flows through Garden of the Gods Park, Historic Rock Ledge Ranch, and down the median of 31st Street in the Pleasant Valley neighborhood; numerous stakeholders add many layers of complexities and constraints.

An intensive public involvement process was carried out during the planning phase of the project and will continue through design. There is a wide regulatory Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) floodplain associated with Camp Creek that includes several residential and commercial structures.

Improvements along the creek will be completed in phases and will require several FEMA map revision processes to fully implement. The hydraulic analysis for the first of those FEMA flood map revisions is currently underway.
