Port MacKenzie Rail Extension - Port MacKenzie, AK

Wilson & Company is currently performing Construction Management Services for Segment 1 of the Port MacKenzie Rail Extension, which entails 4.9-miles of new track grade, 4 million cubic yards of embankment, ballast deck bridge, and a 19-foot diameter multi-plate pipe. The project lies within a formerly glaciated area with a complex suite of glacial deposits ranging from high quality gravel deposits to saturated silts and sands to true clay.

The associated “pot and kettle” terrain and locally poor drainage have produced sizable areas of wetlands that the new rail alignment crosses. We completed Project Management on the overall 32-mile rail extension to connect the Alaska Railroad mainline track with the Matsu Borough’s Port MacKenzie, and the entire project will be built over several years with multiple construction segments.
