Southwest Valley Storm Drain Improvements at Rio Grande High School

This project is located at one of Albuquerque's most historic high schools, and its' location in the South Valley has experienced repetitive flooding issues over the years. Wilson & Company was the prime consultant for all stages of the project providing services including the Drainage Facility Analysis, Preliminary & Final Design, and Construction Management. The five phase project included proposed reconstruction and modernization of existing buildings, sports facilities relocation, parking lot improvements that allow for on-site parking, as well as drainage infrastructure. The flood control system and drainage pond completed during phase one provides significant storage for large storm events to protect nearby homes and streets as well as the Rio Grande High School campus from future flooding. The collaboration between the many different agencies involved in the project resulted in a very pleasing flood control system and open space areas that have generated many positive responses from the public.
