Stormwater CMP Condition Assessment - Aurora, CO

The City of Aurora selected Wilson & Company to conduct a comprehensive inspection and condition assessment of their storm water Corrugated Metal Pipe (CMP) sewers which included inspection of approximately 10 miles of deficient and aging CMP within the City. Approximately 48,000 LF of existing and abandoned CMP conduits were evaluated and prioritized for rehabilitation or replacement.

  • An inspection process was developed utilizing “manned” entry and video/CCTV operations to inspect CMP ranging from 18” to 120” in diameter
  • An inspection form utilizing PACP format was created for both entries. This provided consistency in reporting deficiencies of the conduits

This report gave recommendations for a 15-year horizon CIP program totaling in upwards of $20 million to rehabilitate or replace all the CMP within the study.

The initial rehabilitation of CMP conduits deemed “immediate action needed” was completed at the end of the study. Wilson & Company observed that a pair of 96-inch CMP pipes under a major arterial roadway, which Aurora’s Public Works Department had de-rated for traffic-loading, were severely deteriorated.

Wilson & Company completed an engineering report that included a summary of:

  • All CMP assessment findings
  • Infrastructure evaluations
  • Budgetary level cost estimates
  • Priority rankings, and
  • Recommendations for rehabilitation improvements

The final Stormwater CMP Assessment summary included:

  • Data and recommendations for all inspected conduits
  • Final design recommendations for conduits that were deemed to be in eminent failure
  • GIS shape files and fields demonstrating condition rating, rehabilitation or replacement, and CIP programing for all conduits. These figures and GIS maps included:
