Meet some of our Wilson & Company family during Engineer's Week 2018:

Savina Garcia, PE

  1. What about the engineering profession attracted you? Why did you first get into engineering?
When I was growing up, I always wanted to design and oversee construction of amazing bridges like the Golden Gate Bridge. I just always wanted to be an engineer, and decided to go to NMSU to join their amazing engineering program.
  2. Does the engineering profession run in your family? Or do you have a mentor/friend/etc that inspired you? Tell me more.
My dad Delbert graduated from NMSU with his Engineering Technology degree and was in the construction industry. He always had us helping him build things and I was influenced by him.
  3. What is your favorite project you have worked on?
I have several favorite projects but the one that sticks out the most was the Paseo del Norte Extension. I got to work through so many challenges to get the project constructed, not to mention that we had to blast through 30 feet of basalt just to get started! The best parts were that I got to work with artists to bring their designs to life, we built a critical road that was so beneficial to the Westside, and it was the first set of plans that I stamped as the PE. I’ll never forget standing on the brand new road that had never been open to the public, and turning on the lights to all the artistic features with the whole team. Amazing!
