Riata Road/La luz Channel Bridge
Riata Road is located near the community of La Luz in the County of Otero and provides the only access to residents located north of La Luz Arroyo. The roadway has a low water crossing at the arroyo and has experienced extreme overtopping during storm events. Wilson & Company was contracted to design a new bridge to span the La Luz Arroyo safely and provide access for county residents.
The project includes a drainage analysis and construction plans for a 150-ft long, three-span, pre-stressed concrete girder bridge with eight-foot shoulders and railing. Grade control drop structures, scour protection, and grading and erosion control were designed within La Luz Creek to accommodate the bridge structure. Riata Road is adjacent to the Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR) right-of-way. Wilson & Company coordinated the construction and maintenance agreements with the railroad. Wilson & Company worked with the County of Otero to design the optimum solution for this arroyo crossing and coordinated with UPRR on construction and maintenance.
